Late October afternoon view of Place St-Michel and the Quai des Grands Augustins.

During previous visits, Faithie and I have rented a 5th-floor walkup overlooking the Quai in the second building to the right of the steeple (light, narrow, immediately to the right of the dark gray awning). Awesome views of Pont Neuf, Notre Dame, and the Île de la Cité, and with a private entrance to one of our favorite wine bars – no longer there – at ground level.

An image I posted on Facebook accompanied by: "Paris, City of Light...Actually, the pedant in me should point out that the phrase "City of Light" really has nothing to do with the illumination of the city, although the fact that Paris was one of the first cities in Europe to embrace gas lighting certainly helped to solidify that epithet. Apparently the phrase "La Ville-Lumière" – "City of Light" – stemmed from its role as the intellectual center of the "Age of Enlightenment".

    Pasta Luna

Corsican épicerie serving delicious hot and cold sandwiches accompanied by wine and/or Corsican beer. Scrumptious! (From Rick Steves: "The proud owner lovingly and slowly makes cheap sandwiches to order.")
